Chiropractic Manipulative Therapy and Adjusting

Dr Della Parker Home Page Heading

In some ways, one could say that chiropractic care is a bit like building a house – certain things have to happen in a particular order in order for everything to stand strong and work together correctly. When building a house, if you tried to build your walls before you had a solid foundation, your walls would be weak and eventually may even collapse. If you tried to build your roof before the walls were ready, you would run into the same problem. These concepts apply to your body as well, and chiropractic care addresses many common reasons why people experience pain and other health issues. If something is not right with your body’s foundation, then that needs to be addressed before true health can be achieved. With chiropractic care, your body has to go through a particular plan of care in order to repair itself correctly and fully.

Certain things have to happen in a particular order in order for everything to stand strong and work together correctly.

Hands on manipulative therapy is often the solution to patient’s complaints of discomfort or dysfunction of movement in everyday life.  What we all need is more movement in our lives, not more chemicals, which is why Dr. Herrst uses a variety of hands-on techniques to improve your body’s ability to move.  This may include a traditional manipulation, use of an instrument-assisted manipulation, mobilization of a joint or patient-initiated movements.

Because we work in tandem with you, we will develop a treatment plan that addresses your specific symptoms, concerns and lifestyle. We will ask about your personal health goals, and will use your daily activities to gauge our progress and your response to treatment in order to better meet your needs.

Chiropractic Pregnancy Care

Chiropractic care during pregnancy is a safe way to complement your other prenatal care, with the aim of helping your system function at 100%. Chiropractic care can help alleviate some of the following pregnancy related complaints without the use of drugs such as Tylenol or Advil:

  • Low back pain / Sciatica
  • Pelvic pain, including pubic symphysis dysfunction
  • Hip pain
  • Hand and wrist discomfort
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Foot and ankle discomfort
  • Round ligament pain
  • Posture related discomforts
  • Headaches and nausea

We will develop a treatment plan that addresses your specific symptoms, concerns and lifestyle.

The Webster technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and diversified adjustment protocol.

The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of sacral and sacroiliac joint dysfunction to improve neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis.

Sacral misalignment can contribute to difficult labor caused by uterine dysfunction via uterine nerve interference, pelvic contraction, the tightening and torsion of specific pelvic muscles and ligaments and fetal mal-presentation (breech). Once the pelvis and sacrum are properly aligned, the Webster Technique focuses on relieving the tightness in the round ligaments. This allows the baby to shift comfortably and freely within the womb so that he or she may get into proper position for the big journey to the outside world and into your arms!

Chiropractic Pediatric Care

All children function better with 100% nerve function. All children deserve the right to express their fullest potential. Chiropractic care for children is safe, gentle and effective. It allows for the opportunity for maximum potential for well-being. An adjustment on an infant or small child is often as gentle as the pressure you would use to test the ripeness of a tomato. Instrument assisted manipulation and Cranio-Sacral Therapy are also wonderful treatments for children of all ages to help them be their best.

Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation / Holistic Pelvic Care

Holistic Pelvic Care™ is a gentle, internal pelvic bodywork pioneered by Portland’s own women’s health physical therapist, Tami Kent. Just as our shoulders and back hold tension, our pelvic floor muscles also hold onto tension and stress.

Using a gentle intravaginal massage technique combined with restorative breathing techniques, works to realign your pelvis structurally and to aid in emotional balancing. This process can be of benefit for all stages of a woman’s life, helping to reestablish strength and synergy in the pelvic musculature, increase blood flow to the pelvic organs, and help decrease problematic symptoms.

Cranio-Sacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system – comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system. By complementing the body’s natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including:

  • Migraine Headaches
  • Chronic Neck and Back Pain
  • Motor-Coordination Impairments
  • Colic
  • Autism
  • Central Nervous System Disorders
  • Orthopedic Problems
  • Traumatic Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries
  • Scoliosis
  • Infantile Disorders
  • Learning Disabilities

  • Emotional Difficulties
  • Stress and Tension-Related Problems
  • Fibromyalgia and other Connective-Tissue Disorders
